Technopreneur Awareness Program: Your Business Your Life Day 1, Part 4

Day 1 Part 4

CLARIFICATION

- Once we have chosen a topic and generated a lot of ideas, we have then need to clarify the ideas.
- Key research questions:
  • 5 Wives, 1 Husband - What, Where, Why, Who, When, How
  • 'Why' = cut off communication. Dont ever use.
  • 'How' = very creative question.

Einstein was once asked:
'What would you do if you have 60 minutes to save the world from the collision from a large meteorite?'
- He replied: he would spend the first 55 minutes 'asking questions' and the last 5 minutes to 'find a solution'.

4 Levels of Questions:
  1. - Does the idea fit in the current system?
  2. - If not, how could we change the system?
  3. - If not, how could we extract the concept of the idea?
  4. - Then, based on the concept, could we propose other new ideas?
Example: Teaching Math & Science in English:
- Does the idea fit in the current system?
= No, because the Education system allows only BM.
- If not, how could we change the system?
= Yes, Tun Mahathir forced to change the Education system.
- If not, how could we extract the concept of the idea?
= What is the concept? To ensure students are well verse in English.
- Then, based on the concept, could we propose other new ideas?
= There are many ideas:
- Teaching Math & Science both in BM and English.
- Teaching non-core subjects such as PJK in English.
- Organise English Day weekly.
- Extent the period for English.
- Teach English in the most interesting & fun way.
- English teachers must be well trained.
- Show movies or play games in English.
- etc..
* How to pick up idea? - choose what we like : match with hobby & passion.

TOOL 3: Random Association

Aim:
- to force a connection between two totally unrelated things.
- to suspend or disable our conventional thinking style.

*The essence is randomness.

* " How many ideas hover dispersed in my head of which many a pair if they should come together, could bring about the greatest discoveries. " - George C. Lichtenberg.

Technology Fusion: Mechatronics

Community 1: New Community: Community 2:
mechanical engineering --> Mechatronics <-- electrical engineering

* " Innovation is not achieved by breaking through the boundries of existing technology, but as the fusion of different types of technologies. "

Method: Random Words

1) Relate your problem to a randomly chosen word.
2) The word is chosen
by pointing your finger at a word in the randomly open page of a dictionary or other books.
3) Direct connections are usually rare.
4) Need to explore series of connections before hitting on the 'right' connection.

Random Association; Force new connection between:
1) Book & River. cth: buku koleksi sungai-sungai.
2) Handphone & Pet.

* " Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision " - Peter Drucker

  • First 100 ideas = logic
  • Second 100 ideas = borders
  • Third 100 ideas = beyond
* Untuk kreatif, mesti melawan arus:
  • have to be stubborn.
  • have to be hard headed.
  • dont listen to other people's opinion.
  • Perlu menongkah arus (break the traditional).

Technopreneur Awareness Program: Your Business Your Life Day 1, Part 3

Day 1 Part 3

Tools & Techniques:

Discipline in using the Techniques:
  • Focus Oriented. - should focus on the problem.
  • Time oriented (time frame) - Allocate time for ideas generation.
  • Flow. -let the idea flow spontaneously. -Suspending / disabling our conscious mind.
  • More important... HAVE FUN!!

Tools For Generating Creative Idea..
- Brainstorming
- Analogy
- Random association
- Reversing
- How did they do that?
- Redefine a situation
- Imitation
- etc..

* For more tools, see 'The Creativity Toolkit: Provoking Creativity in Individuals and Organisations', Mc Graw Hill, 1998.

TOOL 1: Brainstorming
- The most popular technique to get as many ideas as possible from a group of people in a short time.
- Developed by Alex Osborn in 1940s
- The slogan is 'the crazier, the better'
* " The best way to get a good idea is to get a lot of ideas " - Linus Pauling.

TIPS:
" If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it " - Albert Einstein.
" Every really new idea looks crazy at first " - Alfred N. Whitehead.
- Outstanding -> crazy idea, think crazy.
- Untuk bina empire, kita kena buat something outstanding & dont follow others.
- Have to break the pattern.
- You have to be very brave to face the world.
- Dont worry of critics.
- Smiles with rejection.

Mind Mapping:
Advantages of using Mind Mapping:

linearsimultaneous
wordspicture/image

- Clear your mind from mental clutter.
- Focus on the subject.
- Allow to develop detailed or organization of subject.
- Show connections between isolated pieces of info.
- Gives a clear picture both details & big picture.
- Gives a graphic presentation & can identify gaps in information.
- Allow to group and regroup the concepts and ideas.

TOOL 2: Analogy ( Perumpamaan )

* Mark Brunel made the London tube system a technical possibility by learning a revolutionary tunneling technique from the wood worm..

- Let the ideas flow freely.
- Look at problem in a more relaxed/open way.
- Broadens the focus of attention to problem.
= by looking at attributes of 'something else' and apply to the situation or object discussed
= looking at problem in a different way.
= Disabling or suspending our conventional thinking style.

Technopreneur Awareness Program: Your Business Your Life Day 1 Part 2

What are requirements of Success?
1) Mindset - 80%
2) Decipline - 19% (Bagaimana kita menguruskan diri to carry out the strategy)
3) Strategy - 1%

Bagaimana menukar mindset?
- tukar buku apa yang anda baca.
- tukar kawan negatif yang anda ada.
- tukar kesemua yang negatif kepada positif.

Sebab semua ini akan direkod dalam minda bawah sedar (Subconcious mind).

Fikirkan (20 jam seminggu):
- USP (Unit Selling Product)
- Marketing research (How to know your market needs)

Kepentingan bertanya banyak soalan adalah untuk mendapatkan sebanyak mungkin penjelasan.

Bagaimana menjana Idea yang kreatif (How To Generate Creative Ideas?)

The Innovation Process: ICEDIP (Inspiration, Clarification, Evaluation, Distillation, Incubation, Perspiration)

Inspiration : Generation of a large number of ideas.
Clarification : Focusing on the goals by asking Questions.
Evaluation : Look back over your work in progress.
Distillation : Deciding which one to choose.
Incubation : Let your subconcious mind workson it as well.
Perspiration : Just do it!

* if you blame others, your business wont go far!

Persistance - tidak menyerah kalah.
Mesti sangat yakin dengan apa yang kita jual.

Ideas Generation
- Does not require huge intelligence.
- 99% of all new ideas are garbage.
= Similar to mining for diamonds.
= most of what you dig is thrown away.
= but the digging process is not a waste of time.

* " The best way to get a good idea is to get lot of ideas " - Linus Pauling.

- Exercising the creative muscle can be hugely rewarding part of one's life.
= 75% of things are yet to be invented..

* " All achievement, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea " - Napoleon Hill, Author of Think & Grow Rich, 1960.

* " It would be an error to assume that ther great discover seizes at once upon the truth. In all probability the errors of the great mind exceed in number than those of the less vigorous mind. Fertility of imagination and abundance of guesses at the truth are among the first requisites of discovery.. " - William Jones.

- Free-flowing exploration carried out with full confidence and enthusiasm:
= like a child playing, revel in the process.
= no criticism, no evaluation.
- Done in ' real time ', ie dont pause for reflection or hesitation.
= to diasble or suspend the critical faculties, ie the conventional thinking style.
- Set aside 30 mins a day.
